policy and decision makers, e.g. politicians and bureaucrats at MCC,
GONW, GMP, LSC GM, CRE, Home Office, Dept. Government and Communities,
etc.

BME issues and interests represented and negotiated with key players
leading to a more informed response. |
BME NETWORKS

Play a leading role in BME networks, e.g.
local (Manchester BME Network – see below) sub-regional
(Greater Manchester REC Network) regional (1NW) national (BFOREC,
UKREN)
and European (ENAR) etc.

Co-ordination of voice on BME needs and issues. |
COMMUNICATION AND THE MEDIA |
Engage with the media about developments impacting on community
relations and race equality. |
More informed and responsible reporting on community cohesion and
race relations. |
Manchester BME Network is for people working in and involved with the
BME VCS in Manchester. It focuses on key issues impacting on BME communities
and their service delivery organisations, e.g. Government Policy and
Strategy, Infrastructure Support, Capacity Building, Service Contracts,
Grant Programmes and Service Delivery issues. Currently it has approximately
150 plus member organisations and meets quarterly.
- Provide a voice for voluntary groups
- Highlight the needs of local communities
- Facilitate the exchange of ideas
- Showcase examples of good practice
- Develop greater understanding of key issues
- Influence decision makers responsible for delivering services
