LEADERSHIP

We aim to play the role of leadership on behalf of the BME communities by providing representation at strategic levels of key policy and decision making forums. We will participate in regional and national networks and develop and sustain positive relations with the media.


Strategic Partnerships

  • Contribute to the Manchester Partnership and its Public Service Board agendas and outcomes.
  • Agenda 2010
  • Support Agenda 2010 initiatives, particularly in employment
  • Crime and Disorder Partnership
  • Contribute to crime and disorder agenda and outcomes, particularly race hate crimes.
  • Manchester Multi-Agency Gun and Gang Strategy
  • Contribute to crime, gun and gangs agenda and outcomes preventing BME youth from straying into the gang culture.

  • Maintain strategic-level links with key policy and decision makers, e.g. Local politicians (Councillors & MPs), business leaders and senior public sector managers.
  • BME issues and interests represented and negotiated with key players, leading to a more informed response.
  • Local:
    Manchester City Council, Manchester College, Manchester Universities, GMP Manchester Divisions.
  • Responsive actions are demonstratively deployed.
  • Sub-Regional and Regional:
    Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Crown Prosecution Services, Greater Manchester Probation Service, Learning and Skills Council Greater Manchester, Government Office North West.
  • Issues pertaining to race and concerns of BME communities are addressed.
  • National:
    Equalities and Human Rights Commission, Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG), Home Office.
  • Appropriate response is made to representations by BME communities.

Networks

  • Lead role in supporting Manchester BME Network, as the accountable body to CN4M
  • Well managed and effective delivered BME Network for Manchester.
  • Sub-regional BME Network, as lead body for Big Lottery Fund Greater Manchester BASIS project.
  • New effectively led Greater Manchester BME Network, with appropriate quality mark, funded and delivered for three years.
  • Sub-Regional (GMVSS), Regional (1NW), National (BFOREC, UKREN) and European (ENAR).
  • Contribute to Manchester BME voice in sub-regional, regional, national and European agendas.

Communications and The Media

  • Engage with the media to make regular positive contributions to community cohesion and race relations' issues.
  • More informed and responsible reporting.
  • Following high profile news, reduce the negative impact on community relations and race equality.
  • Counteract hostile and negative media reporting.
  • Be proactive in projecting news items of relevance to BME communities.
  • Engagement of the media in reporting positive BME news stories.
